Police from China, the United States, and the UAE have completed their first-ever joint law enforcement operation targeting telecom and online fraud networks in Dubai, dismantling nine scam compounds and arresting 276 suspects. The operation, reported by Xinhua News Agency, marks a significant escalation in cross-border cooperation against organised crypto fraud.
The syndicates ran so-called "pig-butchering" schemes — a method where operators cultivate romantic relationships with victims over weeks or months via social media, then gradually steer them into fake high-return cryptocurrency investment platforms. By the time victims realise the platforms are fraudulent, their funds have already been siphoned out.
