The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Hockey League to coordinate oversight of prediction market betting tied to NHL games. The deal mirrors a similar arrangement the CFTC recently struck with Major League Baseball, as the regulator works to establish information-sharing agreements across all major professional sports leagues.
Under the MOU, the NHL and CFTC will share information upon request regarding the integrity of professional hockey and related event contract markets. The NHL had already partnered with Kalshi and Polymarket as its official prediction market platforms, making the regulatory coordination a natural next step. CFTC Chairman Mike Selig framed the agreement as protection against insider trading, fraud, and other market abuses.
